RE: eliminate screen in door of front entry?

We followed the steps on this website Plexiglas storm door to install Plexiglas and it worked very good for us. In your case just remove the screen material and have only the Plexiglas.

RE: Gate valve for black tank pipe

Don't worry about the rusted bolts. Try to loosen them and if they don't come loose try a little harder and just snap them off. If your repair kit doesn't include new bolts you can always buy them. If you think there might be a next time install stainless steel bolts. Before you start drive the other side the TT up on a couple boards and empty the contains of the tank if you can get the valve open, into a 5 gallon bucket. Then level it out and dis-assemble, the job should be a dry one.

RE: emerald ash borer

The Ash borer is no joke. Our 80 acre tree farm back in Michigan has lost $1000's of dollars in Ash trees. I have seen campers with their own firewood and they don't even know they have Ash mixed in with it. Do not transport Ash firewood except in areas permitted.

RE: My DH won't turn over the wheel

Alright, he's educated, professional, smart and kinda liberated. Still he won't turn over the wheel of the B when we travel together although I drive quite well by myself when traveling solo. Other species of guys like that out there? What's up with that? Perhaps he likes my backseat driving. ;) I would say he knows you and your driving skills better than any of us. If he's more comfortable driving, so be it.

RE: Feeling Ripped Off

No I don't think they ripped you off. You didn't do your home work before accepting their offer. If you had you would have pretty much known it's value as to trade in value and retail value. Learn from this mistake and be better informed the next time around.

RE: Can't lock up rewired trailer brakes - what did I miss?

Several years ago I read Dexter brakes required a minimum of 10.5 volts at the trailer brakes. If that's true of other systems I don't know and maybe today that's no longer true. I have checked the voltage on many trailers at the brakes with the tow vehicles engine running and found less than 10.5 volts. There use to be a private website with a write up on the Prodigy that was interesting. Maybe someone will remember where the site was. I remember they said make the wiring between the Prodigy and the trailer brakes as short as possible and to solder connections instead of crimp to reduce voltage drop.

RE: I have no clue what I'm asking but I would like your help!

Looks like your thoughts are in the right direction with the motorhome and towing a toad that gets high MPG. I would suggest a used gas class A 2000 year or newer as you can afford. There's some very good nice ones out there for under $50k. I would say check out the ones on the dealers lots, drive several, sort of find the length and floor plan you like. Keep a log of every thing you look at and drive, along with the miles on the unit and the asking price. Then when your ready search the private sector. I'm not saying the dealers are not honest, but who knows more about their motorhome than the person that owns it. People trade them in and the dealer only knows what the owners have told them and then they forget. Learn what to ask and write down what your told. Believe me after looking at 2 or 3 RV's in a day or two you can't remember what story went with what RV.

RE: The Best Aluminum Roof Sealant

If you want to fix it year after year with $5 a tube caulk of some type that's the way to go. If you want to take the time to properly apply $40 worth of Eternabond tape to the seam areas. It will most likley be a one time fix.

RE: Cleaning Bugs off Front of RV

We just go with a good coat of wax and since I'm an early riser the bugs clean off very easy early in the morning after a nights dew on them. If no dew I go out give the front end a spray of water go drink a cup of coffee and then wipe the bugs off.

RE: eternabond as temp. emergency repair?

I have used Eternabond on wet areas. If you first wipe the area off with alcohol it will disperse the water and better allow the Eternabond to stick. As others have already said once stuck it is not easy to remove.

RE: Everyone must think we're crazy

That's the nice part of having a condo for a home base. It's a place we can return to anytime we like. Yet the outside maintance is done, yes we pay a fee each month but for the maintance that is done for us it's still cheaper than just hiring someone to mow the lawn at our old house.

RE: F250 V10 supposed to tow 11k but ca't even haul 8K? Help

Check to see what rear end is in it, don't believe what the tag states especially if you didn't buy it new.

RE: Black Tank pyramid destroyed!

Rid-X works well to break down the solids, but you will find depending on the how solid the solids are it may take several weeks. But it will work. As for Rid-X and sensors, it will also help them if it's toilet tissue on the sensors which it normally is. But the sensors can also be fooled by mineral build up on the tank walls. In this case I have found filling the tank with fresh water and adding Iron Out then let sit for several days and flush usually helps.

RE: Perfect speed for perfect MPG

From my years at dyno tests with many makes and models I will have to say that finding a magic speed between 55 and 70 MPH has very little to do with MPG. Driver input, learning to read traffic conditions, anticipate stops, start ups after a stop, tire pressure, etc., have more to do with MPG. Then take into account winds, hills, how close you are to the vehicle ahead of you and it's size. There are other lesser factors to consider also, but speed is one of the lesser factors. Calculating your MPG is another factor. All filling stations are not created equal as for being level. This alone can cause over a 5% to 8% difference in fill capacity. This on a 25 gallon tank can cause well over a gallon error from the last fill. You can easily be off 1 MPG or more just from this fill error.

RE: Tour Bus dumping at Flying J - without a hose

Question when the bus pulled off the dump area did anyone hose it down to clean it up?? If they did not there is a problem. If they did then I don't see a problem.

RE: Mileage on a 1999 Ford F250 V10?

A 1999 depending on what rear end it has and how much it's towing will get between 6 and 12 MPG. My 1999 4x2 4:30 rear end with V10 use to get 7 MPG towing 9000 pounds mostly highway speeds. Empty average about 10 MPG and on the highway about 12 MPG

RE: I guess it's my turn - clogged black tank

I don`t know what the "standard" is on how much stink is normal, but I can tell you what we had coming out of the toilet with just a normal flush isn`t anything anybody should ever have to smell more than once in their life. I`ve never smelled anything that smelled like that. And I have plenty of experience at the wrong end of a pitchfork (cow, horse, chicken, and hog). Glad I had the drop-in that day. Those of you claiming to not use ANYTHING in your tank must have a better system than I. Calgon, take me away!!!! I do not use any treatments in the holding tank and there is no smell from the toilet. It's just a guess on my part, but maybe your vent pipe is to far down in the tank and not doing it's job.

RE: I guess it's my turn - clogged black tank

It sounds as if you now have the RV home. Just fill the holding tank with water and let it sit till your ready to go camping the next time. The clog will break down if that's what's causing the draining problem. It may also be the knock out from the toilet flange that's blocking the outlet. This has happened more than once. If you have a cable or extension shaft on your valve, make sure it has not come loose and the valve is not opening fully. If it's just a clog, next time use more water in the tank before you start to use the tank and be sure to use plenty of water with each flush of solids. There is no need to use any type treatments in the tank.
